RISE #75: Why Entrepreneurs Should Give A Hoot About Hootsuite

Ahhh the social media. Full of fun. Wonderment. Amazing people. And…mass confusion.

There are streams everywhere. Facebook. Twitter. Plus more. Information coming at you at a crazy pace. Now add in the fact, that many of us entrepreneurs are creating our own valuable content and promoting it. And keeping tabs on when our business pops up in a conversation. And paying attention to our niches. The list goes on and on.

Whew, I’m exhausted just thinking about it. So, what is the solution? What is an easy way to make it all manageable from anywhere (your computer, phone, etc.)? Ryan Holmes, founder of Invoke, came up with the solution for us entrepreneurs: Hootsuite.

As CEO of Hootsuite, Ryan has developed a unique platform that makes this quickly changing web easy to understand and manage.

I had a chance to sit down (errr Skype down?) with Ryan and discuss Hootsuite for all of us. Most importantly, I wanted to know:

-Is Hootsuite a good option for hustling entrepreneurs looking to manage social media sites or just big companies?

-How can we maximize it?

-How did he start it and more importantly, how did he create buzz that turned into customers?

-What is the future of the platform?

There are a lot of takeaways from the conversation including Ryan talking about generating buzz through big blogs like Mashable (great tips from him).

You can try out Hootsuite right here and it is free. Plus you can connect with Ryan (who is a great guy) on Twitter.

I know after spending some time with Ryan, I give a hoot. Do you?

What has been your experience? What do you use to manage your social media accounts?

This episode of RISE is sponsored by some people who freaking rock (obviously…c’mon now):

1. You can check out my interview with Johnny right here talking customer service, business tips and more (more with Johnny coming soon)

2. When you head into Johnny Londoff Chevrolet, mention you heard about him from RISE and get supplier pricing (in a nutshell: Best. Price. Ever.). And he will give you $1,000 over Kelley Blue Book Value of your trade-in.

GFI Digital: Your printer solution. Bruce Gibbs is an entrepreneur (he built a 40 million dollar company from scratch…) who understands entrepreneurs. They are redefining the print world, because lets face it, at some point you are going to need a printer. Keep GFI Digital in mind as your first choice. They will take good care of you like you are my brother or sister. Plus you get 6 months free service by mentioning RISE (sweet).

tSunela: Funny name, big results. When it comes to systematized online marketing, tSunela rocks. And they will do a complimentary audit for you to take a look at your website and see if it is REALLY performing. To cash in on this great free deal, here are the details (with no catches…zero).

LOVE Hootsuite! I have a couple of Twitter accounts. Hootsuite makes it easier to manage them and stay on top of live hashtag communities when I am a participant.
  • Awesome, appreciate the comment.
  • Thanks for this! I've had HootSuite in the back of my mind and just haven't taken the time to learn more about it. I use CoTweet and TweetDeck both and neither do everything that I want. Started a HootSuite account and it's exactly what I'm looking for! Love the integration with Google Chrome. Another tool I'm totally in love with. You should tell Ryan to make an app for it for WebOS, because now that the Palm Pre is on AT&T I'm totally getting one and want to use it there.
  • Jillian - I was sort of the same way. And now I'm hooting and hollerin' (oh someone stop me with my jokes). I'm sure Ryan will check out the comments. If not, he is @invoker on Twitter.
  • Yes! I absolutely loooove Hootsuite and everything they're doing. Since I prefer to use a web-based Twitter client, it's where it's at for me. Great interview David :-)
  • Got it, Mike. Good to know. And thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for this episode! I've been using hootsuite for about 3 weeks, and am just starting to dive into all of the functionality. This gave me some good tips. Thanks!
  • My pleasure. Have fun with it!

Thanks for this interview. I used to use Hootsuite pretty heavily, but got away from it. I think I will get back in the habit again. What I like to do is take snippets of my articles and schedule them out through the day, so its not just Article Title - Link.

I think right now Hootsuite is better as a publishing tool than as a listening tool, but I will be reconsidering that opinion as well as I dive back in and utilize my Twitter lists with the Hootsuite platform.
  • Bradford, definitely. I'm experimenting as well. Let me know your thoughts as you get back into it.
